Temporary Car Insurance

Temp Car Insurance

Sometimes you may need to borrow another persons car, maybe a friends or a family members car for a short period of time. Usually your normal annual policy or the insurance of the person you are borrowing the car from will not insure you to drive their car. In these sorts of situation you can get temp car insurance.

A temporary car insurance or daily car insurance policy allows you to legally cover yourself to drive another car for a period of up to 28 days or for just one single day. An instant policy can be obtained online so that you are covered straight away so if you want to borrow your dads car for an evening or weekend you can now do so without your parents worrying that they will be hit by a big insurance claim if you have an accident.

Drive to Spain, France or the EU using temp car insurance

There are many benefits to getting cover for just a day or a short period of time. First and foremost it is the most cost effective and economical way to legally drive someone else's car in the UK or to one of the European Union countries. Once insured you can drive to countries like France or Spain. Great for a day out in the French countryside or to drive to Spain and use the car for your Spanish holiday. It works out a lot cheaper than having to hire a car.

If you need to drive a car back from a car dealer or private sale then you will need to be insured. A temp car insurance policy will cover you to drive your new car back safely or you could use it so that you can test drive a new car that you are looking to buy but is not yet yours.

But what if you are a younger driver and still want to be able to borrow a car belonging to someone else. We all know that getting insured if you are under 25 can be more problematic and expensive. You can get temporary car insurance for under 21 years of age but not every insurer provides this and of course like an annual policy will be more expensive.

One of the biggest benefits of daily car insurance is that it will not affect your normal insurance policy or that of the person you are being lent the car from. This means that your no claims will not be affected which is why it is a popular option when children want to borrow their parents car.
