You can now get a temporary insurance policy for your car, motorcycle, van or even your motor home. This means that you no longer have to buy expensive annual policies if you are going to just be driving a vehicle for a short period of time, anywhere up to 28 days.
If you are going to be driving a vehicle that you do not own then to be able to drive it legally and safely you need temporary car insurance cover. This is a short term insurance policy that you can take out for between one and twenty eight days. It gives you the same cover as your normal annual insurance but for a shorter temporary period.
In the UK you can apply for a policy online, you will not be faced with a long and complicated form to complete, in fact it is a lot simpler and much shorter than the normal car insurance forms you usually have to fill out.
You can get cover for up to an 8 seater vehicle and the car you want to cover needs to be a standard UK registered one. If you have a classic or very old car you will not usually be able to get temporary car insurance cover for this type of vehicle. You also may not be able to get cover for a car that has been modified for both cosmetic or performance reasons.
You will usually need to know the registration or the car you are going to get temporary insurance for. If you plan to get cover for a vehicle that you are going to test drive then you should find out the registration number of the car before you apply for the policy online.
To qualify for daily insurance you will need to hold a full UK driving licence, a provisional licence will not be accepted. You will usually have to be at least 23 years of age to qualify for cover, some insurers may accept younger people but as a general rule 23 is the minimum.
Getting cover right now is just a case of completing a short online form. There will be some minimum criteria requirements that vary between insurer but as a general rule if you are able to get a standard annual policy there should be no problems with getting temporary cover.
