In the UK you can now get a temporary car insurance policy to insure you to drive a car. This allows you to get legal cover to drive another car for up to 28 days or a short a time period as just one single day.
Many people think just because they have an annual insurance policy on their car it covers them to drive other cars as well. This is just not true, if you drive another car other than the one specified on your documents then you are driving illegally. Driving without the proper insurance can get you a fine and worst still points on your license.
To get round this problem you can now get what is called daily car insurance, this means you can legally drive another car for a short period of time, even for just one day. Rather than having to risk losing your license you can now legally drive another vehicle.
Not only is it important that you are abiding by the law and driving regulations on the UK you are also protecting yourself and the owner of the vehicle. Imagine if you had an accident whilst borrowing a friend or a relatives vehicle.
If you have a small prang your friend will probably be quite angry, he will not be able to claim on his insurance as you were driving so you will probably have to pay to get it fixed. But imagine if it was more than a prang and another driver was involved. How will you explain away the fact that you do not have valid insurance. So getting a temporary UK car insurance policy means that you can drive legally and if you do need to make a claims the policy will cover the costs and your no claims will remain unaffected. These policies are cheaper than your normal annual policy and you do not have the long and complicated online forms to fill in either.
